Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman

Music icons at Letwell

If you've never ventured to the live music at Letwell then now is surely the time.

Our next guests Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman are truly one of the great duos touring Britain today.

Twice winners of the BBC Folk Awards at the Royal Albert Hall the couple have cemented a formidable reputation at the very forefront of the contemporary British music scene. Four acclaimed albums, and a fifth newly released, the pair were winners in the Spinal Earth Awards 2015, alongside greats Robert Plant and Bellowhead.

Kathryn grew up in Barnsley, and sang almost before she could speak. An early partnership with renowned songstress Kate Rusby led to much critical acclaim, and an award winning album. Kathryn was the first singer to win the revered BBC Young Tradition Award. More success came along in 2015 when Kathryn was invited to join the iconic 70s folk rock band Fotheringay stepping into the shoes of the late great Sandy Denny.

Sean Lakeman remains a tour-de-force of modern folk music. The eldest of the three Lakeman brothers raised on Dartmoor Sean played the guitar from the age of six. He's worked heavily with famous brother Seth, and his production credits include some of the biggest names around, ranging from The Levellers to Imelda May and Billy Bragg.

Tickets for the show - on Thursday September 20th - are available from Martyn and Andy.

John Reilly and Lewis Nitikman are next up on Saturday October 13th. Please book early - this pair never fail to sell out very quickly!!

*We're used to music fans travelling long distances to catch a show at Letwell, but Phil and Mary Smith set a new record when they arrived to see Zervas and Pepper on June 2nd. The couple had driven all the way from Bexley in Kent, and made a weekend of the trip calling in to see the sights at Hardwick Hall the next day. Phil was full of praise for the venue. "What a great place to see live music," he said. "Shame we don't live a bit closer...."
